Clinical Operations

The Department of Clinical Operations is responsible for all clinical aspects of EMS operations. The department is responsible for the review of runs and run reports for each call a medic responds to and also provides feedback and remediation. The department is also responsible for the ordering of medical supplies that are to be stocked on each of the units.

Clinical Coordinator, Matt Rushing, EMT-P

New Hires/CE
The department of Clinical Operations is responsible for overseeing the application and interview process of all new members. The clinical coordinator works closely with both the training captain and the communications captain to ensure a smooth and consistant training program.

Continuing education is offered to all members of TAMU EMS and also to anyone in the public who is interested. TAMU EMS is able to provide documentation of continuing education for all classes. This allows the attendee to use the course certificate to apply the credit to state and national registry recertification.

Clinical Review and Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement (QA/QI)
The department is responsible for the review of all runs that are completed by University EMS. With the combined efforts of our Medical Director and the Clinical Coordinator, each run is reviewed, critiqued for protocol adherence, and feedback is given to the medics.

University EMS is one of the very few collegiate agency's that employ the use of computerized patient reporting. EMS uses the Zoll EMS Pro application along with a Panasonic Toughbook Tablet PC that features a touch screen where medics can record information with a stylus and enables patients to sign patient reports directly on the computer. The purpose of using a computer solution to capture patient information is to enable comprehensive analysis of patient runs, compile reports, and most importantly preserve patient privacy to their protected health information. After retrieving the call and reviewing it, the Clinical Coordinator and Medical Director can easily add comments to the report and send the comments and feedbacks back to the medics for review the next time they are logged into their inboxes.

Patient Care Protocols
TAMU EMS has one of the most complete and up-to-date set of patient care protocols in the state. Our protocols are continually revised to ensure that our patients recieve the best and most appropriate out of hospital care possible.
