The Assistant Chief shall have
the following responsibilities:
- Will be the volunteer
authority concerning aspects of Texas A&M
University Emergency Medical Services, but must consult with the Chief.
- Will aid the Chief with all inter-agency agreements and communications,
mutual aid procedures, hiring, coordination and direction of Officers.
- Will have authority to resolve issues involving TAMU EMS including,
but not limited to EMS personnel conflicts and disciplinary procedures,
and daily operation conflicts which arise with other emergency agencies.
Shall notify the Chief in writing within 24-hours of such conflicts.
- Will have appropriate authority over Officers and general members.
- Shall report all relevant and necessary information and data concerning
EMS operations to the Chief.
- Shall be available by pager at all times, unless extenuating circumstances
prevail.
The Assistant Chief shall meet the following qualifications:
- EMT-P or LP preferred, but not required.
- Must be a current student at TAMU.
- Must have a working knowledge of all EMS operations, including duties
of positions of those he/she directly supervises, and must be able to
perform those duties as needed.
- Shall satisfy one or more of the following criterion:
a. Have held a defined leadership role for one long semester.
b. Have
held the position of Shift Supervisor for one long semester. - Preference will be given to any member who has been employed or volunteered
with another Fire department or EMS service not affiliated with TAMU
EMS. Member must secure recommendation from current or previous supervisor.
