How To Join

Texas A&M EMS is constantly seeking new volunteer dispatchers and medics. As students, we are aware that there are many wonderful organizations on campus. However, we feel confident that EMS is one of the best among them. Many former medics have gone on to become doctors, nurses, firefighters, and other health care professionals.

The procedure for becoming a medic or a dispatcher are slightly different. To begin as a medic in training (Medic 4) you must first complete an approved Emergency Medical Technicial training course. There are several couses of this type available in the State of Texas, and links to local providers are listed below.

To begin as a dispatcher in training (DIT), no previous experience is required. You will schedule shifts with approved communication training officers who will teach you standard and advanced dispatch procedures. To complete the training program, the dispatcher must have shown competancy in communications department protocols, procedures, and must also pass an exit exam and mock call.

If you would like to observe pre-hospital care on one of our ambulances, University EMS does offer a ride out program. Riders are allowed to observe University EMS personnel render care to patients who call for help.

To get more information or to schedule a ride out, please call our squad room at 979-845-1525 or fill out the online application below.
